Bengaluru startup Pentavalent Bio Sciences bags Tata Social Enterprise Challenge 2016-17

Bengaluru-based med-tech start-up Pentavalent Bio Sciences has won the fifth edition of Tata Social Enterprise Challenge 2016-17, held at Kolkata in January.

Pentavalent Bio Sciences Pvt Ltd from Bengaluru has emerged as the winner of the Tata Social Enterprise Challenge 2016-17.

The Tata Social Enterprise Challenge, is a joint initiative by the Tata group and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta), a National Level challenge to find India’s most promising social enterprises. It is also aimed at raising awareness about Social Entrepreneurship, TATA Social Enterprise Challenge aims to encourage the youth to step up to be the next generation of social entrepreneurs.

The grand finale of the fifth edition of the program was held on January 14, 2017 at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C). Pentavalent Bio Sciences bagged the winning amount of Rs 2.5 lakh. The company is currently developing an innovative diagnostic tool using a novel in-house FlapCut technology that detects TB in patients, and helps doctors prescribe patient-specific antibiotics for treatment.

Arogya Medtech from Kolkata emerged as the first runner-up, and Bombay Hemp Company (BOHECO) from Mumbai was the second runner-up.
